Moore’s law describes a long-term trend in the history of computing hardware whereby the number of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years.

Now consider that “every day through 2011, AWS added the same amount of server processing capacity, on average, that it took to run the Amazon online retailing operation in 2000, when it was a $2.76bn company” Source http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/01/06/amazon_aws_biz_2011/.

While this staggering investment creates an extremely cost effective environment for your hosted Cloud solution, Amazon’s Cloud pricing is decoupled from Moore’s Law! Today we find that Cloud is often 10x more scalable, 2-5x lower in cost, and 100% more open than enterprise Data Centers.

For example, it now takes one of our Cloud clients less than 1 minute to push to production using their new and improved infrastructure, compared to 45 minutes it took for their legacy Cloud provisioning, and you see the speed of improvement.

We have seen some clients experience 24-hrs for provisioning 1 environment before Cloud, and then migrate to Cloud and experience only 1 hour for provisioning 6 environments.  All for less expense! So while this lower cost Cloud environment is super fast, remember it all has to tie together.  You must be able to treat your production instances like drives in a RAID array; disposable and replaceable. If you don’t, it’s not cloud!
